Take-It-Further Challenge - January

It feels really good to be back in the studio working again. Very aggressive goals have been set for 2008, there's a new mask collage --Moirae (The Fates: Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos) -- in process on my easel, & The Take-It-Further Challenge has begun with close to 300 participants.

The key theme for this month's challenge is admiration. The goal is to take the concept & develop a resolved design by the end of the month. Here's the color palette to be used in the event we don't want to use the theme. Or we can combine the theme & the color palette in the resolved design.

I mentioned in an earlier post that 1 of the people that I have always admired is Mae West (Yes, I know, a fairly odd choice.) & that I wanted to do a series of fiber or paper collages based on quotes attributed to her this year. This seems like a great opportunity to kick off that series. The quote I'll be using is "I used to be Snow White but I drifted."

I'm not sure about using the designated color palette though. I don't use a lot of green in my work generally as a rule & these definitely aren't colors that I would associate with Mae West. Although that may be all the more reason to use it. Force myself to work with something that isn't going to be a natural fit for me. I'll be digging through my stash this weekend as I work on developing the concept so I'll see what I come up with. The 1 limitation that I've put on the challenge is that I have to work with supplies that I already have.

I'll be posting my progress on the challenge each Friday.
